For its third bus tour, For(u)m returns to Phoenix to showcase perhaps its most established corridor yet, northbound along 19th Avenue. In 2016, the boulevard welcomed Phoenix's first light rail extension, going from its prior terminus at Montebello, all the way to Dunlap, where it will eventually continue westward.
Taken together, the area features some of the most diverse and established communities along light rail: with an enormous immigrant and refugee population to the south, and million-dollar estates to the north and east. By bus, guests will travel this entire length, and hear from stakeholders both long-term and new to the area, discussing commercial, residential, community, educational, and infrastructural successes, along with challenges.
A former golf course becomes mixed-income housing; a vacant lot becomes a new home for senior and refugee farmers and gardeners; three long-established Arizona retailers continue to anchor core plazas; and a former "Home for Girls" becomes a new community plaza. All of these stories and and more show both the assets and potential of the area coming to be known as "19North," uniting neighbors and business owners for education, safety, and economic development.
