Places for Human Being:

Re-shaping the Environments that We Inhabit for Life

Presented by Philip D Allsopp D. Arch.,

M.S.(Public Health), RIBA, CSBA, FRSA

Chief Technology OfficerHabitat Systems Design & Manufacturing, Natura Materials Corporation  and Sustainability Sr. Scientist and Adjunct Professor, Julie-Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability Innovation at Arizona State University

Philip is an Architect with substantial credentials.  He previously served as President and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and also President of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.  He also previously served in the U.S. government with the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General as U.S. Public Health Service Fellow.

Join your fellow Arizona Green Chamber friends as we learn about a fascinating new GREEN building technique that is “a strategy for built environments that encourage reconnection, self-reliance, healthy more active and abundant living while using less and wasting nothing”.

Think about it:  Humans have been building largely in the same way for so many years.  Progress has been made with green building practices but, now, an inspiring technology has been developed to transform building as we know it for the better!

In describing the innovative building process, Philip Allsopp says, when explaining the title, “BEING is the act of being alive in all of its aspects.”   Philip explains that the title of the presentation captures the reason “why I’m doing what I’m doing with this work that led me to Natura Materials Corporation.   For me the title is the converse of the overarching goals that have haunted and in many ways impoverished too many real estate development projects since WWII.”   Philip shares his desire “ to express my sense of purpose in a greater context” as he works to inspire others to think grander as they create built environments.  Natura Materials Corporation prides themselves on building “Regenerative Built Environments ™” that are Designed for Life and Built to Last!

Some of the topics that will covered:

  • The current challenges with the way we design and build human settlements - buildings of all types
  • The approach we are taking - integrating the design, manufacturing, fabrication and assembly of better performing structures
  • The materials supply chain we are using
  • And, excitingly, some examples of innovative ways to re-think the approaches, supply chains and greener, more efficient design concepts being designed in the world and by Natura Materials Corporation and elsewhere.

Phil’s role at Natura Materials Corporation is focused on solving the converging ecological and human health crises by changing how human habitat is designed, manufactured, fabricated and assembled Phil was born and educated in England, becoming a licensed architect and Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He conducted post-graduate research in environmental physics and energy conservation at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology and won a Queen Elizabeth II scholarship to Columbia University, New York, where he earned a Masters degree in the public health field. Phil served in the US Government with the Office of the US Surgeon General as a US Public Health Service Fellow, after which his career spanned the fields of architecture, public health, management consulting and system dynamics. He attained practice leadership positions with global management consulting firms including Electronic Data Systems, A.T. Kearney and SAIC, and also the major international architecture, urban planning and engineering firm of Perkins and Will.
